Emergency Dentistry

There are two things we know for sure about dental emergencies: they're always inconvenient and often very stressful.

At Jansz Dental, we believe dental emergencies don't have to add unnecessary anxiety or stress when you have the right dental team by your side. That's why we've redesigned the patient experience during dental emergencies through our prompt, compassionate approach to emergency care.

At Jansz Dental, we provide emergency dentistry in Sherwood for children, adults and seniors. Our team makes every effort to provide same-day emergency dental treatment whenever possible. We do this by offering convenient clinic hours, including morning, early evening and Saturday bookings.

If your dental emergency occurs outside our normal business hours, you will reach our on-call dentist by calling us on (07) 3278 6111.

When to Call Your Emergency Dentist

Even if you’re unsure if it’s a true dental emergency, call us anyway. While we cannot diagnose your condition over the phone, we can guide you on the next steps. Here are some examples of the dental emergencies we handle at Jansz Dental.
Knocked-Out Teeth
Contact us right away. The longer your tooth is left out of the mouth, the more challenging it is to save it. Timing is key in this emergency situation.
Severe Toothache
A constant toothache that doesn’t go away and keeps you from your normal activities could indicate an infection.
Facial Swelling
Facial pain or swelling may indicate an infection that will not go away without treatment. Pain and swelling can become worse very quickly and if left untreated, can become a medical emergency. Please attend your local dentist urgently if you have facial swelling.
Broken Tooth or Filling
A broken tooth or filling needs to be seen at your earliest convenience. Even if it's painless, the longer it's left untreated, the more likely it is that restoring the tooth will be more complex.

Frequently Asked Questions

A dental emergency can happen at any time, and when it does, it is important to act quickly. Whether you have cracked a tooth, lost a filling, developed sudden severe pain or taken an unexpected knock to the mouth, the first thing you should do is contact Jansz Dental. Our team will promptly assess your situation and provide the care you need as quickly as possible.

Contact Your Emergency Dentist in Sherwood

We understand that dental emergencies simply cannot wait. That is why we focus on providing same-day care whenever possible and why one of our dentists is always on call to see emergency patients outside normal business hours. Our dentists have been caring for families in the Sherwood community for over 30 years, and they are committed to being there for their patients when it matters most.

While you wait to be seen, here are a few steps that may help in common emergency situations:

  • Knocked-out tooth — Don't touch the root and do not rinse it with water. Instead, use dairy milk. If it is a baby tooth, do not reimplant the tooth. Adult teeth need to be placed into the socket as a matter of urgency.
  • Cracked or fractured tooth — If a cracked or fractured tooth can be saved, it is best to treat it early to reduce the chances of the fracture getting worse.
  • Lost filling or crown — Avoid chewing on the affected side until one of our dentists is able to treat it.
  • Toothache or abscess — Take over-the-counter pain relief for a toothache as directed by your dentist or GP until you can be seen.

Don't Wait to Seek Emergency Dental Care

Whatever your emergency, do not hesitate to call us. Prompt treatment can make all the difference in saving a tooth and getting you out of pain quickly. Call our team on (07) 3278 6111 for more guidance.

Emergency Treatment at Jansz Dental

Our dentists are well-equipped to handle all types of tooth emergencies at our dental clinic. Here are some of the treatment procedures they may recommend:

  • Tooth-coloured fillings — Composite resin fillings eliminate tooth decay without compromising your tooth’s aesthetics.
  • Porcelain restorations — A porcelain veneer or crown can repair a broken, decayed, fractured or compromised tooth.
  • Root canal treatment — A root canal removes infected tissue from within your tooth, preserves its natural structure, and alleviates the infection causing your pain.
  • Dental bridge or implant — These are ideal for tooth replacement, protecting your bite, tooth alignment and function.
  • Tooth Extraction — This is a last resort we recommend when a root canal can’t save your tooth.
