What Happens During Root Canal Treatment?

Depending on your needs and the tooth we’re treating, a root canal may require two appointments. Here’s what to expect:
- Dental Anaesthetic — Our dentists gently deliver dental anaesthetic to calm the pain and numb the tooth, so you don’t feel anything during your procedure.
- Removing Infected Tissue — We’ll create a small access opening on the top of your tooth to reach the infected tissue and carefully remove it.
- Cleaning the Canals — Our dentists will clean and reshape the canals, then fill them with a biocompatible material to ensure your tooth remains infection-free. Then they’ll seal the tooth with a temporary filling and allow it time to heal.
- Strengthening the Tooth — Once your tooth has completely healed, our dentists will rebuild and strengthen it with either a filling material or a dental crown to restore chewing function to the same level as before your tooth infection.
Does Root Canal Treatment Hurt?
Modern dentistry and advanced technology ensure that root canal treatment is efficient and pain-free. Root canal therapy has often been associated with the pain caused by tooth infection. The truth is that a root canal actually relieves pain and preserves natural tooth structure.
